Savoury Chef, Taryn Wa, swept the board at last night’s inaugural Curry Cup held at Heritage Hall with all proceeds from the sell-out night going to the Chefs’ Table Society of B.C. to support their various scholarships and charitable partners. Winning both the people’s choice and the judge’s vote, her curry of Malay-style local lamb rendang with crispy quails egg, garlic chips and roti jala impressed judge Mijune Pak: “Taryn’s curry was love at first bite. It was the first curry we tried and usually I like to hold a poker face until I try them all, but I could barely contain my excitement for hers. She set a benchmark that was hard to beat. It was rich, creamy, sweet, savoury and spicy with depth of flavour and attention to texture. I just wanted a bigger egg on top. I’d buy it.”
